Theron, Corné

Corné Theron was born in Worcester on 7 January 1974. She matriculated in Bloemfontein and went on to study law at the University of the Orange Free State and graduated during 1997 with a LLB, after which she married a Christian minister and moved to Swellendam, and thereafter to the Cape.

She practised for two years as a conveyancer, but resigned in 2001. After her resignation, she started writing a children’s book and decided to try her hand at illustrations for the book. This set her on the path of the arts and she began taking private art classes.

She has subsequently participated in two group exhibitions at Rust and Vrede Gallery in Durbanville and hosted two private exhibitions.

One of her works was featured in the Summer 2006 edition of the magazine “Passi” and she was also invited to participate in the March 2007 “Pakkies vir Pase” interior design expo at Rawsonville. She was chosen as one of ten artists for the recently held "Fresh Talent"-exhibition held by the Crouse Art Gallery. She has sold a number of paintings to clients in various parts of the country.

She derives her inspiration from the human psyche, and it reflects the stages of development in her own persona and some of her Christian beliefs are also mirrored in her paintings. Her aim is to capture a specific mood, unique to each painting, with the hope that it will inspire the viewer.

She also enjoys painting flowers, still lifes and portraits and has done several portraits of men and women, children and families.

For Corné, each work of art is a legacy to be passed on to the next generation. She aims for a timeless simplicity.
